Letcon: Launching an Electronics Shop for Romanian Makers
How we took letcon.ro — our own online store for development boards, sensors, soldering equipment and 3D printing — from an empty catalogue to a live, indexed, selling shop in one week, and what we built into it so it keeps earning search traffic.

Context
Letcon is our own online shop, run from Pitești, for people who build things: makers, students, hobbyists and small workshops across Romania. The catalogue covers development boards such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino and ESP32, sensors and modules, soldering stations and irons, measuring instruments, hand tools, and 3D printers, filaments and resins.
The name is a small piece of luck. Letcon is the everyday Romanian word for a soldering iron, and people search for it. A brand that is also a product keyword is a rare head start, and a lot of the search work below is about not wasting it.
This case study is about launching a real store, not a demo. We had an existing domain with an old, half-empty catalogue, suppliers ready to ship, and a hard rule that nothing on the site may say something we cannot stand behind. The shop went live on 11 August 2026. Everything here happened in the five weeks around that date.
Constraints
Trust before traffic
The maker market in Romania is small and word travels. Every claim on the site had to be true and ours: no invented specs, no "to be confirmed" placeholders, no trust badges we could not justify. We removed a "100% original" badge because much of the stock is honest compatible hardware, and a "fiscal invoice" badge because that is simply the law.A live domain with history
The previous store had 77 product pages and 82 category pages indexed, most of them empty shells. Replacing it could not break a single URL that search engines already knew.Compliance is not optional
An electronics shop selling in the EU has to handle product-safety disclosures, the "lowest price in the last 30 days" rule for discounts, consumer dispute notices, a cookie banner that actually respects refusal, and card-payment provider requirements. All of it had to be in place on day one.One small team
The same people wrote product copy, built the storefront, handled the legal pages and answered the phone. Whatever we built had to reduce ongoing work, not add to it.
Approach
Launch first, sell a week later
We replaced the old store with the new one on launch day with the catalogue fully browsable but nothing yet buyable, on purpose. That gave us a week of real traffic, real search-engine crawling and real customer questions before the first order could go wrong. Every old product, category and information page received a permanent redirect to its new home, so the domain kept its history instead of starting over.Category pages that answer the question
A grid of products is not a page worth ranking. Each of the more than seventy category hubs on Letcon opens with routing chips to the right sub-category, and closes with plain-language "which one should I pick" guidance and a short FAQ. Filters are hand-authored per branch so the options are ones a buyer would actually use. One rule governs all of it: a link never points at an empty grid. Every promise a hub makes is checked against live stock before it renders.Guides that sell parts
The guides section carries step-by-step tutorials and buying guides — first-time Raspberry Pi 5 setup, Arduino versus Pi, a weather station, a camera timelapse — each with a shoppable parts list priced live from the catalogue and an add-everything-to-cart button. This is the content search engines reward and the content that turns a reader into a customer in one click. One voice, no hedging
The site speaks as the shop. Early product texts leaned on supplier phrasing and it showed: "the supplier indicates", "the datasheet does not specify". We ran an editorial pass over every description, checked facts against manufacturer documentation, and rewrote the catalogue to either state a fact or say nothing.Search built in, not bolted on
Clean, readable URLs for every product, category and brand. Meta titles and descriptions generated from templates but never allowed to overwrite a hand-written one. Rich structured data on products so search results show price, availability, real shipping costs and delivery windows. Product feeds for Google Shopping, Meta and the Romanian price comparison sites, with a health view that names exactly which products are missing a barcode, a brand or an image. A sitemap that regenerates weekly and notifies search engines directly. A plain-text description of the shop and its full catalogue for AI assistants, refreshed on the same schedule. We also set an explicit crawl policy so automated scrapers cannot drown out the crawlers that actually send customers.Consent that means it
Analytics do not load until a visitor says yes. Accept and refuse carry equal weight, there is no dismiss-and-track, and withdrawing consent removes the cookies. The map on the contact page follows the same rule: it loads automatically for visitors who consented and as a click-to-load placeholder for everyone else.Compliance as a feature
Product-safety and responsible-person details appear on every product. Struck-through prices show the lowest price of the last 30 days beneath them. Invoices and warranty certificates are real documents attached to every order. None of this is glamorous. All of it is what lets a small shop take card payments and sleep at night.Fast on a phone
Most makers browse from a phone at a workbench. We cut roughly a third of the storefront's script weight, combined a dozen render-blocking stylesheets into one, and gated page-specific code so it loads only where it is used. Layout shift on product pages went from noticeable to effectively zero.
What was hard
The honest list. First, the catalogue itself: three hundred products need three hundred accurate descriptions, images in the right formats, barcodes, brands and stock, and content is where launches quietly stall. We built a small back-office view that tracks every product through text, photos, stock, price and search readiness, so the gaps are a list rather than a feeling. Second, a URL-routing bug in the first days after launch was silently hiding pages from search engines. Fixing it roughly doubled the number of indexed pages overnight, which is a reminder that the most valuable SEO work is often just making sure the pages can be seen. Third, saying no to copy. Every placeholder we refused to publish was a page that looked thinner for a while. It was the right call.
Where it stands
Letcon has been live and selling since August 2026, with the first paying orders in the first two weeks and organic search already the largest source of visits. Accessibility and search audits score 100 on the home page. Search engines index several hundred pages, the brand term ranks on the first page, and the guides and category hubs keep expanding as stock does.
The patterns transfer directly to customer work: launch on a real domain without losing its history, treat category pages as content, make compliance a checklist rather than a scramble, and build search visibility into the storefront so it does not depend on anyone remembering to do it later.
